Srinagar, May 13 (RNA):
Tara Chand, Working President of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee and former Deputy Chief Minister, has called for urgent relief measures for families residing in forward villages along the Indo-Pak border, who have been severely affected by cross-border shelling and Pakistan drone strikes.

Leading a delegation of senior Congress leaders, Tara Chand visited several border migrant camps and affected villages including Danna Chapri, Jalada, Gulaba, PHC Dori, Higher Secondary Dager, Baba Mahimal Sarain Dager, Bali, Kharra, Sajwal, Dhaleri, Naraina, Kot Mehra, Badwal, Gigrial, Hamirpur, Sainth, Gard, and Deriyan.

Immediate Relief Demanded for Border Families

Expressing grief over the loss of innocent lives and injuries caused by repeated ceasefire violations, Tara Chand demanded that the Central and J&K governments provide 10 marla residential plots and ₹5 lakh compensation for each family residing within the firing range of the border.

“People have been forced to abandon their homes. They are living in camps without proper food, ration, or basic relief. Relief materials were distributed selectively, leaving many families without essential supplies,”said Tara Chand.

Call for Special Relief Package and Bunker Construction

He also urged the government to sanction a special relief package for these displaced residents and provide financial assistance to farmers who have lost their crops and livestock due to escalating border tensions.

Citing examples from the UPA government era, Tara Chand highlighted that previous governments took swift action even during minor border incidents, announcing special packages to support the affected.

Warning Against Complacency

The veteran Congress leader cautioned residents to remain vigilant, stating that “Pakistan cannot be trusted” and urged the government to safeguard India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity without compromise.

Additionally, he demanded the immediate construction of community bunkers in border villages to ensure that residents have access to safe shelters during future escalations.

Tara Chand was accompanied by senior Congress leaders including Bodh Raj Bhagat, S. Nirmal Singh Mehta, Ricky Dalotra, Bodh Raj Sharma, Raj Kumar Sharma, Devinder Singh Bittu, Gautam Sharma, Vijay Singh Chib, Madan Lal Sharma, among others.
