Poonch, May 13 (RNA):
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Shri Tariq Hameed Karra has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately announce a comprehensive special package for the relief and rehabilitation of border residents affected by cross-border shelling in Poonch, Rajouri, and surrounding areas.

Accompanied by a delegation of senior Congress leaders including Working President Shri Raman Bhalla, Ex-Chairman J&K LC Jahangir Mir, AICC Secretaries Shah Nawaz Chaudhary, Neeraj Kundan, Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, and other district-level leaders, Karra conducted an extensive tour of affected areas in Poonch to express solidarity with the bereaved families and victims.

Condolences to Victims’ Families

The delegation visited Baila in Mandi, where Karra offered condolences to the family of Islamic scholar Qari Mohammad Iqbal, who was martyred in recent shelling. He also paid respects to another victim martyred in Bandichechian, and visited Chaj Troh where two children tragically died in Dungas near Christ School.

“It is deeply disturbing that a martyr was wrongly labeled as a terrorist by a section of national media. Legal action must be taken against such defamatory reporting that adds to the grief of already devastated families,” said Karra.

Visit to Religious Sites and Affected Areas

Earlier in the day, the Congress team visited Shri Budda Amarnath Temple, Dera Nangali Sahib, Bagyala Masjid Zia-ul-Uloom, Gita Bhawan, Gurudwara Singh Sabha Mohalla, and the residence of martyr Surjan Singh in Poonch city. They also visited the district hospital to meet the injured civilians and assess medical facilities.

Demands for Immediate Relief and Long-Term Measures

The people of Poonch demanded compensation for loss of lives, livestock, homes, and crops, as well as employment opportunities for youth in paramilitary forces.

Congress Working President Raman Bhalla emphasized that Poonch is the worst-hit district due to cross-border aggression and urged the Prime Minister to announce a special relief and recruitment package for the region, including the construction of more community and individual bunkers.

Karra also demanded:

  • All-party meeting chaired by the PM to address border tension.

  • Special Parliament session to discuss the ceasefire details and broader security implications.

  • Martyr status for all civilians killed in shelling.

  • Full-fledged rehabilitation plan with financial and structural aid.

“Poonch has borne the brunt of this crisis, yet the Prime Minister failed to even mention it in his speech. The nation deserves transparency on the events of the past 20 days, including the Pahalgam carnage and the ceasefire terms reportedly brokered by a third party,” Karra told reporters.

Final Visit to Mendhar and Mankote

Later in the day, the team also visited Mendhar and Mankote, where they offered condolences to families of other victims and pledged full support from the Congress party in raising their voices at both state and national levels.
