World Hypertension Day Observed with Awareness Events Across Jammu Division

JAMMU, MAY 17, 2025:
To mark World Hypertension Day, a comprehensive awareness event was organized at Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, aiming to educate the public and healthcare workers on the early detection, prevention, and management of hypertension. The program was graced by Director Health Services Jammu, Dr. Abdul Hamid Zargar, as the chief guest.

Healthcare professionals from various departments participated in the event, emphasizing the growing burden of high blood pressure (hypertension) and the critical need for regular monitoring and lifestyle changes to combat this silent killer.

A detailed PowerPoint presentation was delivered by Dr. Anju Sharma (DNB Medicine) under the guidance of Dr. Dinesh Sharma (Consultant Medicine). Dr. Anju explained the types, pathogenesis, treatment options, and preventive strategies for hypertension in an engaging and informative session.

Dr. Abdul Hamid Zargar, in his keynote address, underlined the importance of routine blood pressure checks, regular physical activity, stress management, and healthy dietary practices. He urged people to adopt lifestyle modifications to reduce the risk of hypertension-related complications.

The program commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Ruchita Mahajan, Microbiologist, who greeted the chief guest and dignitaries. The event was meticulously coordinated by Deputy Medical Superintendent, Dr. Balvinder Singh, and held in the hospital’s conference hall. The audience included senior consultants, medical officers, paramedics, and nursing students, making it a well-rounded and impactful educational session.

Directorate-Wide Observations and BP Screening Drive

Simultaneously, World Hypertension Day was observed at the Directorate of Health Services Jammu under the leadership of Dr. Abdul Hamid Zargar, and with active support from ZLO/Divisional Nodal Officer NCD, Dr. Sushma Mattoo. A BP screening camp was conducted for all officers and officials of the Directorate and adjacent departments.

Health experts advised attendees to adopt a healthy lifestyle, engage in regular physical activity, avoid smoking, stay hydrated, reduce salt intake, and undergo routine medical checkups to minimize the risk of developing hypertension.

District-Wide Participation Across Jammu Division

The spirit of the day extended across all District and Block-level health institutions of Jammu Division. With active participation from Chief Medical Officers, Medical Superintendents, and Block Medical Officers, the awareness activities successfully reached thousands, fostering a strong message of preventive health care and early intervention.
